NORO GREEN CITIES: Pioneering the Future of Urban Sustainability

Supported by a grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants Romania 2014-2021, in the frame of the SME Growth Programme Romania, Open Call for Bilateral Cooperation in the Green Transition.

A consortium comprising leading Norwegian and Romanian organizations has officially launched the NORO GREEN CITIES project, an ambitious initiative designed to foster innovative and sustainable urban development. The project is a collaboration between two Norwegian partners, DIH Oceanopolis AS, the project Promoter, and Nordic Edge AS, and three Romanian organizations, Danube Engineering Hub, City Cluster, and the Institute of National Economy.

Objective and Vision: NORO GREEN CITIES, which stands for Norwegian-Romanian Green Cooperation Initiatives Towards Innovation and Environmental Sustainability, aims to harness digital technologies and smart city solutions to address critical urban challenges. The project focuses on promoting sustainability, enhancing public-private partnerships, and facilitating the green transition within urban environments.

Innovative Approach to Urban Challenges. The project is structured around two key phases. The initial phase lays the groundwork for comprehensive Smart City Roadmaps by assessing current urban challenges, fostering stakeholder engagement, and identifying opportunities for intervention. The subsequent phase will focus on co-creating these roadmaps to implement resilient, inclusive, and sustainable urban environments.

Strategic Partnerships and Knowledge Exchange. NORO GREEN CITIES is not just about technological implementation but also emphasizes strong bilateral relations, knowledge sharing, and capacity building between Norway and Romania. By doing so, it aims to create a replicable model of cooperation that other regions can adopt.

Empowering Communities and Stakeholders. The project's comprehensive approach includes a series of thematic workshops, stakeholder engagement events, and collaborative research activities. These efforts are designed to empower local authorities, businesses, and communities to actively participate in and benefit from the project’s outcomes.

Commitment to a Sustainable Future. "The NORO GREEN CITIES project exemplifies our commitment to advancing urban sustainability and digital innovation," said Stig Marthinsen, CEO DIH Oceanopolis AS. "By combining expertise from Norway and Romania, we aim to create impactful solutions that can lead to meaningful, lasting change."
